Young Experts in Security
Being a young expert is both exciting and challenging, but it should never be intimidating. Instead, it should be embraced as an essential part of professional and personal development. Continuous learning, stepping outside of one’s comfort zone, and remaining authentic are key to success. Adaptability is crucial in an ever-changing world, and taking risks is essential for growth.
Young people are not just beneficiaries of peace and security; they are key actors in shaping a sustainable and resilient future. They contribute significantly by advocating for civil security, promoting dialogue and mediation, using digital platforms for awareness, and, most importantly, advancing education. Every young person has a role in shaping the future, making their engagement in these areas not just valuable but necessary.
Young people belong at the table
Excluding young people from decision-making poses serious risks to society and the younger generation. These risks include missed innovation, lack of civic engagement, and ineffective policies that fail to address long-term challenges. Without youth participation, decision-making becomes disconnected from the realities and aspirations of future generations, weakening social cohesion and democratic processes.
Young people today face critical security threats, including violent conflicts and wars, which displace them and disrupt their futures. Radicalization, unemployment, discrimination, political instability, and repression of activists are all acute issues affecting young people worldwide. Addressing these challenges requires inclusive policies that integrate youth perspectives into security strategies.
A Network for Change
The Pool of Young Experts is a network of creative, highly motivated young professionals committed to making a difference and driving meaningful societal change.
I joined the Pool to share ideas, innovate, and grow personally and professionally within an inspiring network of diverse young leaders. The OSCE’s commitment to inclusivity ensures that young professionals feel valued and included in decision-making processes.
Learning and Collaboration
From my peers in the Pool of Young Experts, I have learned the importance of staying open to new topics and connections, as they often lead to unexpected discoveries. Their unique insights into global challenges and problem-solving have broadened my perspective on complex realities.
Visiting the Permanent Council in Hofburg and meeting OSCE staff were particularly inspiring experiences. These interactions expanded my understanding of international policy-making and sparked new ideas for personal and professional growth.
